  • Why Race?

Why in the world do we feel the need to enter races?  They are often on the expensive side, they make us nervous, they are time consuming, they make us step outside of our comfort zone and they make us get up early on the day of preparing to fight traffic detours and the inevitable sardine packed starting line.  So again I ask, why? Why do we do this to ourselves and our loved ones?  Why do we put everyone including ourselves through such hassle?

  • I "HEART" FITNESS

As the month of February approaches I have the human heart on my mind for a number of reasons.  The month is a celebration of love as well as health when it comes to our hearts.  In honor of this month I would like to write a bit about heart rate, what it means and how it can help us all when it comes to our overall fitness.

  • Running is a Team Sport That We Do Alone

No, the Body Glide that I lathered all over my body during my 12 miler today is not going to my head.  I am not all "blogged" out and have nothing left to say but nonsense.  I am not losing my mind because I didn't eat enough carbs post run and no I did not forget to "gu up" during my run leaving me delirious.  I am simply stating the facts about a sport, a therapy, an exercise that is so unique and different that only those that partake can relate, but ALL that partake can relate.  If you have gotten past that initial fear and that initial thoug

  • Love Each Day

Love is one of those words that we either feel really close to or repulsed by? Am I right?

We have such conviction when feeling the gain or loss of love in our lives. We have most likely realized that love is a powerful feeling. For centuries, poets, musicians and singers have written songs about the rise and fall of love. Love will always affect the human mind for centuries to come.

  • Just a Letter from One Runner to Another

    Dear Running Boot Campers,

I wanted to write to you today to express how thankful I am for all of you.  It is not enough that a coach has the opportunity to thank those they teach, this is my opportunity and I am taking advantage of it!

  • A Fly on the Wall

Being a coach is sometimes like being a fly on the wall.  When coaching there is a great deal of observing that goes on.  Of course there is much interaction, but there is definitely a lot of watching with your head on a swivel.  You're watching, learning, fixing, helping, engaging and coaching.  As you continue to coach you learn...you know the room now, you have learned it, you have observed it before and now you observe new things.

  • To Stretch or Not to Stretch Before and After a Run - That is the ?

To Stretch or not to stretch??  As a running coach I often get asked whether or not to stretch before and or after a run and my answer is never short and sweet because there is actually a lot to this.  As always this is my opinion and I have developed my thoughts and feelings after years and years of running and much necessary research.
