  • My Departure

    Dear Long Beach Boot Campers,

As I am sure many of you have now heard this week will be my last week with Long Beach Boot Camp :(  My departure is nothing short of bitter sweet.  I received an opportunity that I could not pass up and with the support of Shannon and the entire team they are sending me off on my new adventure with many positive thoughts and well wishes.  I am excited for things to come, but sad to leave something that I love and believe in so incredibly much.

  • Moving On

Many of you who have been following my blogs know that on March 1, 2012 I gave up sugar, well not forever, no no, but for a month and guess what today is?  April 1, 2012 so guess what I did today?  I ate sugar.  What you ask?  Did I not learn a thing from my break-up with Sugar??  Like many out there who do not learn from their own break-ups I did not...JK I learned a freakin' TON!

  • Our Bodies and Running Are Like Our Cars and Driving

I just returned from a 10.5 mile hill run and before I begin my blog today let me just say phenomenal job today to all of the runners who joined me out there today.  What an amazing effort!  I am truly, TRULY proud of all of you and also thoroughly impressed.

  • Practicing What I Am Preaching - Well Starting to Anyway

Hello "Run Forest Run" Blog Readers!  What do I call you?  I am a bloggER so are you blogreaders, bloggettes, blog groupies...hmm I am going to think of my own name for you how about that?  You are bloggies.  Yup, that's the ticket, bloggies, I like it and I'm sticking with it!

  • The Breakup

Sugar and I were together for 32 years and on March 1, 2012 I decided to break up with her.  It was hard, it was a bit impulsive I will be honest after all this time, but it was necessary.  Just as my blog said last week, we need to leap sometimes, so I did and now I am living my life without Sugar.

  • Leap and the Net Will Appear

Leap and the net will appear (zen saying)...

Think about this for a minute...sit with it...let it marinate...something has GOT to be coming up...SOMETHING.  This saying could not resonate any more with me than it does right now.  It speaks to me for a number of reasons...the main one being that Long Beach Boot Camp and Long Beach Running Boot Camp are both grand opening in Sacramento, CA this week!  WOOT freaking WOOT!

  • One Month Challenge

Dear "Run Forest Run" Blog Readers,

  • 10 Steps to Becoming a Runner!

Running is a sport, an activity, a form of exercise that we often feel we can just go out and do without any plan, any direction and/or any proper training.  However, this is not the case.  Many ignore that there are steps to becoming a runner and consequently many who try and run get injured.  Then you are left with ex- runner's who were perhaps just 10 steps away from incorporating an incredibly life altering daily activity because they simply did not start and advance properly.

    10 Steps to Becoming a Runner -

  • Becoming a "Runner" in 10 steps!

What do you mean become a runner in 10 steps?  You're talking about just going out and running right?  Can't I just do that?  Throw on a pair of shorts, a top and some tennis shoes and I'm out the door, right?  Are you telling me there are steps to this?  Steps to running?  Please explain I don't understand.

  • Why Race?

Why in the world do we feel the need to enter races?  They are often on the expensive side, they make us nervous, they are time consuming, they make us step outside of our comfort zone and they make us get up early on the day of preparing to fight traffic detours and the inevitable sardine packed starting line.  So again I ask, why? Why do we do this to ourselves and our loved ones?  Why do we put everyone including ourselves through such hassle?

  • I "HEART" FITNESS

As the month of February approaches I have the human heart on my mind for a number of reasons.  The month is a celebration of love as well as health when it comes to our hearts.  In honor of this month I would like to write a bit about heart rate, what it means and how it can help us all when it comes to our overall fitness.

  • Running is a Team Sport That We Do Alone

No, the Body Glide that I lathered all over my body during my 12 miler today is not going to my head.  I am not all "blogged" out and have nothing left to say but nonsense.  I am not losing my mind because I didn't eat enough carbs post run and no I did not forget to "gu up" during my run leaving me delirious.  I am simply stating the facts about a sport, a therapy, an exercise that is so unique and different that only those that partake can relate, but ALL that partake can relate.  If you have gotten past that initial fear and that initial thoug

  • Just a Letter from One Runner to Another

    Dear Running Boot Campers,

I wanted to write to you today to express how thankful I am for all of you.  It is not enough that a coach has the opportunity to thank those they teach, this is my opportunity and I am taking advantage of it!

  • A Fly on the Wall

Being a coach is sometimes like being a fly on the wall.  When coaching there is a great deal of observing that goes on.  Of course there is much interaction, but there is definitely a lot of watching with your head on a swivel.  You're watching, learning, fixing, helping, engaging and coaching.  As you continue to coach you learn...you know the room now, you have learned it, you have observed it before and now you observe new things.

  • Happy New Year Runner's!!!!

A New Year and another chance for us to get it right - OPRAH

  • The Infamous New Year's Resolution

You are sitting there feeling stuffed, rubbing your tummy, feeling guilty about what you have been consuming over the past week, and you are saying to yourself right now, "I'll be better in the New Year."  This thought will help you sleep tonight becasue you will be good in the new year.  Poof!

  • To Stretch or Not to Stretch Before and After a Run - That is the ?

To Stretch or not to stretch??  As a running coach I often get asked whether or not to stretch before and or after a run and my answer is never short and sweet because there is actually a lot to this.  As always this is my opinion and I have developed my thoughts and feelings after years and years of running and much necessary research.

  • A Little Bit About Running Form

You read that you should run barefoot, then you read that barefoot running is awful for you.  You hear that you should never run because it is too hard on the body, then you hear that you should run as much as you can make time for because it is one of the best forms of cardio...Really? I mean what are you supposed to do right? Who do you listen to?  Don't worry I feel you, and it's not that I have an answer, but I definitely have my opinion and what I think and feel you should do.

  • runthereforeiam

    runthereforeiam

That's my  name under my twitter account, runthereforeiam.  I will be keeping this short and sweet so I hope that you do not mind, you probably think I write too much and babble on too long most of the time anyway.  I have been fighting an awesome fever, super awesome and feel like I don't want to do anything, other than write this blog apparently.

  • Running and It's Oh So Big Life Changing Moments

You pull up to the race.  All you see are sworms of people, of runners and you are reminded why you gave yourself 2 hours to find parking, use the restroom, warm up and ultimately get as close to the starting line as possible.  Now you just have to figure out how you will park, what restroom line you will attempt to shuffle through and what strategy you will use to get yourself up to the front of the start line.

  • The Runner's Nod

So what exactly is the runner's nod? The runner's wave? The runner's 2 finger relaxed peace sign?

  • runthereforeiam

twho, twhat, twhere, twhen and twhy??  ...i apologize for the t's but I just learned how to tweet, wait no that's a lie, I just created my first twitter account and the more accurate statement would be that I have no idea how to tweet but WOW am I trying! I figure at the very least I might say one thing or even one word that resonates with one person and THAT alone makes me smile :)

  • i AM a runner

I was walking away from a training run yesterday...I had a 7 mile beach and stair out and back run all mapped out for my running boot campers and as the run came to an end I could not have been more proud and excited.  7 miles!! Stairs!! and lots of them!!  A mile was just the warm up...so an easy Saturday morning stroll...NO...an incredibly challenging Saturday morning run with stairs thrown in there and a 1 mile warm up, not to mention the Friday before was full of rain and the coldest temperatures of the year to date.

  • "I'M KIND OF AWESOME AT RUNNING!"

No, no, no...I am not saying that "I" as in "me" is kind of awesome at running, I am saying that "we" are kind of awesome at running. What do you mean "kind of awesome at running?" you ask??
