Dear Shannon,
Boot Campers Running
Focus on the Positive...
Through practice, you can almost always find the positive in any situation.  Anything that can be formulated in positive terms will lead to harmony among people and productive change.

Make your life a seminar in living.  You can achieve this by learning something new each day, no matter how small; by reaching out to others; by never passing up an opportunity for a new experience that will enlarge your knowledge; and by traveling as much as possible so that you can see new places and meet new people from different backgrounds.

Having an attitude of gratitude is about finding the positive in any situation. Find yourself saying "but at least..." to whatever challenges you are facing. Your optimistic shift in perspective will help you stay positive, it will make life more enjoyable, and you will attract other like-minded individuals.

As always, we encourage you to communicate your cares, questions, and concerns to us because we truly desire to help you toward achieving your goals with great success. Whether it be through informational newsletters, a friendly phone call, or just giving you a place where you can come to be motivated into a great workout, we hope that you know your steps toward success matter to us. You matter to us. We are here to help.

Thank you for allowing us into your personal lives.

Sincerely,

Shannon Paul, Caroline Fiegen, Shawdee Ghavimi, Geoff Glaeser, Christine Lee,
Nakia Barba, & Jo Hendrix

Attitude of Gratitude

There are two types of people - those who want what they want and those who want what they have.

Those who want what they want are always chasing the next "thing," the thing they think will make them happy, impress others, or give them the sense that they've "arrived." The simple fact is there is always a next "thing" and these same folks just never seem to be happy.
Now the other folks, the ones that want what they have, they are content and happy. They are the ones who have true gratitude in their lives and they feel blessed by all good things that come their way. They've learned that "things" don't make you who you are, attitude does, and an attitude of gratitude is the attitude to have. Why? Because thankful people always seem to get more of just what they need, and they don't even have to chase it down, it just comes their way naturally.

It's easy to sit there and complain about your lot in life, what's not fair, who has more than you and doesn't deserve it and cry "poor me." When you regularly hold your "itty-bitsy-pity-party," you not only tend to attract more of the same into your life, but more of the same type of people who are just like you, never satisfied, always miserable.
Instead, develop an attitude of gratitude and a thankful heart, and you not only influence those around you, you will attract more thankful people to you.

Injury Prevention:

Brought to you by
Titus Motion Therapy

Most back pain stems from postural imbalance, an
almost unavoidable symptom of today's sedentary lifestyle. "Today, kids are
in front of the TV, the computer or video games. Adults sit behind desks or
in cars for much of the day ... so we're moving less and less. This in turn
creates the core instability we see in so many people: the slumped posture and
rounded shoulders."

What is Titus Motion Therapy?

Titus Motion Therapy (TMT) uses exercise and motion therapy to realign your body and correct posture through the use of prescribed exercises designed to restore balance and flexibility. This results in the elimination of pain and chronic injuries. The program consists of individualized, specific exercise routines that are non-invasive and safe - without hands-on manipulation, adjustments, machines or medication. The body is treated as a whole unit with an emphasis on education and self-reliance.

Exercise therapist Frank Titus, B.S., T.M.T., exclusively offers Titus Motion Therapy at his newly expanded Health Through Motion Center in Los Angeles. He developed the therapeutic program after 15 years experience in exercise therapy and pain management, and he has successfully treated high profile entertainment clients, as well Olympians, PGA, NFL and NBA  players.

Without pharmaceutical drugs or hands-on manipulation, TMT has over a 95%success rate in eliminating pain, and is a beneficial adjunct or alternative to chiropractic treatment and physical therapy. The modality is an off-shoot of the Frank Titus B.S., T.M.T.acclaimed Egoscue Method, which golf pro Jack Nicholas publicly attributed to eliminating his need for back surgery. Titus holds a degree in Exercise Physiology with emphasis on Kinesiology and Corporate Fitness from Indiana State University.

Titus treats clients throughout the world via video consultations and has

had clients as far away as New Zealand.

Sharing SuccessA Boot Camper's Story

Hi Shannon and Caroline, hand weights

I wanted to let you guys know that I am in better physical condition than I have been since I graduated from college twenty years ago.  I would never have thought that I could come so far in a short 6 weeks.  I knew that I was in better condition, but it was proven to me yesterday.  I have been searching for a new physician to help me find the source of my twenty year cough and had an appointment yesterday.  To make a long story short, my breathing tests were at 130% for someone my age and she is going to try and lower my asthma medicine.  She also did a baseline EKG and my resting heart rate was so low that the results were abnormal except for an athlete.  Thanks for having the perfect program to help me get back in shape.

THANK YOU TO OUR BOOT CAMPERS WHO ARE WILLING TO SHARE THEIR STORIES TO INSPIRE OTHERS.

Recipe of the Month:
"Silky Pumpkin Soup"

brought to you by Lauren Squier, MPH, RD
of
Culinary Enlightenment

It's that time of year again...pumpkins abound!  The bright orange flesh tells us that they are loaded with beta-carotene, an antioxidant that becomes vitamin A in the body.  Current research tells us a diet rich in beta-carotene may reduce the risk of developing certain cancers and protect against heart disease.  Dig in to a warm bowl of pumpkin soup!

Ingredients:
2 teaspoons olive or canola oilPumpkin Soup
1/4 cup finely chopped shallots or small yellow onion
2 garlic cloves, pressed or finely chopped
1 Tablespoon finely chopped or grated fresh ginger root
1 Tablespoon brown sugar
15-ounce can pumpkin puree
1 cup vegetable stock
1 cup light coconut milk (or lowfat evaporated milk)
salt & pepper to taste
optional garnish:  toasted coconut or a dollop of lowfat vanilla yogurt
Serves 4

Instructions:

1.     Silky Pumpkin Soup Label Heat olive oil in a medium or large pot over medium heat.  Add shallots when the oil begins to shimmer.  Saute 3-4 minutes or until they start to brown.
2.      Add garlic and ginger.  Stir 30 seconds.  Stir in brown sugar.
3.      When sugar melts, add pumpkin puree.  Stir well.
4.      Add vegetable stock and coconut milk.  Simmer 15 minutes.
5.      Check seasoning.  Season with salt & pepper to taste.
6.      Optional:  blend and pour through a fine mesh strainer for an extra silky soup.
