Eliminating Debt If you have problems fighting the urge to splurge, you're not alone.
According to a recent Gallup poll, the average American owes $2,900 in
credit card debt. Last year, 1.6 million US households filed for
bankruptcy. Now more than ever, people are asking "Where'd the money
go?"

Taking control of your weight loss is like taking control of your finances. We splurge, we eat more than we can afford, and then we ask ourselves, "How did I let myself get to this point?

How To Eliminate Debt / Unwanted Weight:
- Put everything in writing.
- How much do you need to lose?
- Understand the big picture to make smaller, smarter goals on your path to being debt free Make a six week goal to get closer to your healthy weight.
- Write down your fitness goals.
- Make a budget using your Boot Camp Calorie Calculator. Have a daily/weekly/ monthly plan.
- Keep track of your caloric spending daily by journaling.
- Cut excessive spending by planning and prioritizing
- Prioritize spending calories on what you can't live without. Try whole, unprocessed foods such as fruits and veggies.
- Eat every 3 hours to maximize your metabolism.
- Eliminate luxuries and superfluous spending (such as dessert) .
- Plan your meals, grocery shop, and prepare your own food.
- Do more than the minimum repayment
- Bigger commitment = better results.
- Exercise + Nutrition
- If you want to lose weight and you're walking 30 minutes, three times a week, without changing your diet, it will take roughly one month to lose one pound.
Repay your debt without going below your Resting Metabolic Rate (refer to Calorie Calculator) Exercise 5-6x/week for best results.
- Schedule it into your day & stay committed.
- Prepare to break a sweat & keep your heart rate up for 45 minutes!
- Get comfortable with being uncomfortable. Push yourself to your limits. If you get dizzy or light-headed, ease up, and work just below that level.
- Get friends to join you, stay accountable, & have fun!

Be My Bra From a nurse: I'll never forget the look in my patients' eyes when I had to tell them they had to go home with the drains, new exercises and no breasts. I remember begging the Doctors to keep these women in the hospital longer, only to hear that they would, but their hands were tied by the insurance companies.
So there I sat with my patients, giving them the instructions they needed to take care of themselves, knowing full well they didn't grasp half of what I was saying, because the glazed, hopeless, frightened look spoke louder than the quiet 'Thank You' they muttered. A mastectomy is when a woman's breast is removed in order to remove cancerous breast cells/tissue. If you know anyone who has had a Mastectomy, you may know that there is a lot of discomfort and pain afterward.
Insurance companies are trying to make mastectomies an outpatient procedure. Let's give women the chance to recover properly in the hospital for 2 days after surgery.
Women need your support. It takes 2 seconds to do this and is very important. Please take the time and do it! Please send this to everyone in your address book. If there was ever a time when our voices and choices should be heard, this is one of those times.
There's a bill called the Breast Cancer Patient Protection Act which will require insurance companies to cover a minimum 48-hour hospital stay for patients undergoing a mastectomy. It's about eliminating the 'drive-through' Mastectomy where women are forced to go home just a few hours after surgery, against the wishes of their doctor, still groggy from anesthesia and sometimes with drainage tubes still attached.
Lifetime Television has put this bill on their Web page with a petition drive to show support. Last year over half the House signed on. PLEASE!! Sign the petition by clicking on the web site below. You need not give more than your name, state, and zip code. ( http://www.lifetimetv.com/breastcancer/petition/signpetition.php )
This takes about 2 seconds. PLEASE PASS THIS ON to your friends and family, and on behalf of all women, THANKS

Things have changed a lot for me since I began, and I am so thankful that I found your boot camp.On a personal level boot camp has done so much for me:- Help me stay positive about myself and land a new job.
- Shed a good solid 10 pounds
- You reminded the dietitian that just because I have the knowledge didn't make it work for me ( I had to look at what I was eating)
- Enjoy running like I did when I was younger
- Lose a full 2 inches of the junk in my trunk
- Have a place to go for 7pm Friday date night
Thank you for both running next to me when I was a beginner and telling me I could make it. I really hated it at the time, but now a mile run is no biggie! THANK YOU TO OUR BOOT CAMPERS WHO WERE WILLING TO SHARE THEIR STORIES TO INSPIRE OTHERS. To share your story, please email Jo@LongBeachBootCamp.com

Recipe of the Month: Corn & Bean Salad brought to you by Lauren Squier, MPH, RD of Culinary Enlightenment
Fresh, sweet corn is a delightful summer treat. It can be enjoyed in many easy, delicious ways. For instance, it can be trimmed (the corn silk end), soaked in water for 30 minutes, and grilled to perfection in the husk for 15-20 minutes over indirect heat. Or husks removed, it can be washed, wrapped in plastic wrap and microwaved 2 minutes per ear. If the corn is fresh and sweet, it doesn't even need to be cooked. Try the recipe below that features fresh corn straight from the cob.
Corn & Bean Salad Serves 6
Ingredients: 1 1/2 cups fresh corn (~ 3 ears) or 1 15-ounce can sweet corn kernels, rinsed & drained 1 15-ounce can black beans, rinsed & drained 1 cup grape tomatoes, cut in half 1/4 cup diced red onion 1 jalapeno, seeded, and finely diced 3 Tablespoons chopped fresh cilantro 2 Tablespoons lime juice 1 Tablespoon olive oil Pinch of salt & pepper Directions: Remove corn husks and silk strings. Using a pie plate or baking dish lined with a paper towel (to prevent kernels from wandering away), stand corn on the flat end and run a sharp knife between the kernels and the cob. Combine corn with remaining ingredients in a medium bowl. Mix well. Refrigerate to allow flavors to blend. Serve with grilled chicken, shrimp or fish for a delicious, well balanced meal!
