Dear Shannon,

Have you noticed how all the sudden there are people riding their bikes around your neighborhood lately?  There's nothing like seeing folks being active outdoors that puts a smile on my face - other than joining them, of course.

It's time to get back into the activities you love to enjoy on warmer days.  Celebrate spring and more daylight!  Play outside and have fun while you let your activities burn a few extra calories.

Come back to boot camp if you've been hibernating for the winter.  We would love to see your smiling sweaty faces again.  Take your beach cruiser and basket to your local farmers' market to fill up on fresh, in-season produce.  Savor sweet strawberries at their peak.  Read more ideas.  California weather can keep you guessing, but it really is such a gift.  Take advantage.

We won't get this time back.  Let's spend it doing activities we will enjoy and remember with the ones we love.  Soak in the beauty of life. Smiles and cherished memories await.

By a Boot Camper from Christine's 5:30am Women's class.

Commraderie...I hadn't planned on taking much of the nutrition aspect into consideration. Christine encouraged me to at least try what the program suggested since I was paying for it after all, and I might learn something. Boy was she right, I started journaling that first week only to find out I was consuming about 2200 calories per day!!! What a wake up call! I knew I'd never look/feel how I wanted to with that kind of caloric intake. And Lord knows I didn't want to work any harder than I already was in Boot Camp class....

...I can promise that if you really "work it" and do all your instructor advises you to do, you will see results. I lost a total of 6 inches after my first 4 weeks....

Injury Prevention
Prehabilitation Exercises: helping reduce risk of injury

The concept of 'prehabilitation' exercise training is now becoming well-known among trainers and therapists involved in sports performance preparation. Prehabilitation involves strength and conditioning exercises for specific muscles that help to reduce injury risks, before an injury actually occurs. It's the classic 'an ounce of prevention is better than a pound of cure' approach to physical training.                                            Read More

Boot Your Mood, Naturally
Dr. Michelle Zarzana
Many people with mood disorders take prescription medications to stay on an even keel or to feel "normal." But many of these medications have risky side effects and what works for one person, doesn't work for another. Trying to adjust your mood becomes a classic case of trial and error (with emphasis on error) as doctors attempt to get the right cocktail of drugs that elevate your mood and keep it there.

So maybe you don't like the idea of medications, but you don't like the feeling of being so "blah" or depressed all the time. Are there natural alternatives you can try to boost your mood? Sure there are, and these include:

Two Weeks Strong (exerpt)

Coach Caroline "Just get to class, we'll take care of the rest." -Caroline Fiegen

Not to toot my own horn but I love this quote!  The reason I say it to you today is because this marks two weeks into class.  For those of you that don't know the two week marker is usually where gyms, boot camp, exercise classes in general, start to see a significant drop off in participants.

People start out strong, make time for their workouts, stay committed... then excuses, mind games and anything else other than time for yourself creeps back in.  Taking care of yourself becomes the last priority and a workout is last on the list of anything for ourselves.
